It’s not something you’d necessarily expect to see, but it’s striking how often the interior design sector picks up on trends set by the fashion industry. This makes perfect sense when you think about it; consumers who are into their clothes will by extension also be into their interiors. Of course, many of the architecture firms and design studios we supply understand this relationship very well.
At Agua, we work hard to keep up with this dialogue between fashion and interior design. You’ll doubtless have noticed that corduroy has been the material of choice in both men’s and women’s fashion for several seasons now; it features in chunky, earthy-coloured tailoring in winter, and soft washed shirts and shorts in summer. From Dior to Ralph Lauren and from Topshop to TM Lewin, everyone’s using cord.
It’s easy to see why; cord’s plush velvet-like surface is extremely soft and comfortable to wear. It catches the light beautifully with its raised pile, but it’s also extremely durable. Incidentally, these characteristics make corduroy the perfect contract upholstery fabric too.
So, for the past 18 months we’ve been beavering away to develop a range of 100% polyester cord fabrics appropriate for upholstery, which combine a luxurious feel with enhanced durability and the high-performing characteristics we are known for. Agua Cord is Crib 5 fire retardant, stain resistant, waterproof, anti-microbial and hardwearing.
It’s exciting for us to be releasing a new, fashion-forward collection at this time. Agua Cord is the first of its kind, and brand new to the contract fabrics sector. We’ve also worked hard to perfect the collection’s colour palette, thinking about its various different applications. From sapphire blue through to deep olive, rose pink and sophisticated mushroom and coffee shades, the collection’s 18 different colours are both contemporary and versatile.
